Building on this foundation, the organization took a monumental step in 1999 with the introduction of the Assisted Living Program, formerly known as Life Long Living. Our residences in Peel Region, including Conover, Britannia and Windsor Hill, have become home for individuals with diverse cognitive abilities, fostering a sense of belonging and growth.

In 2002, the West location in Oakville was established, catering to individuals who were, at the time, considered the ‘hardest to serve’ in the province. Several individuals were repatriated from the United States with nine placements at West and several others who were accepted by our sister agency Head Injury Rehabilitation Ontario (HIRO).

Recognizing the evolving needs of our community, we unveiled our Seniors Program in 2008. This initiative has proven pivotal in stabilizing responsive behaviours and minimizing medical interventions in long-term care facilities, allowing ABI individuals to maintain their placements in the home.

In 2011, Mind Forward expanded our horizons in the Central West region by establishing a second headquarters in Orangeville. For nearly a decade, this location served as a hub of connectivity and interaction for the brain injury community in Dufferin County.

2012 marked the inception of the Support Independent Living (SIL) Program. Originally serving 10 individuals with varying requirements of functional skills training such as budgeting and medication management, the program has since flourished and has more than tripled its initial clientele. We are proud to be partnering with the Region of Peel to offer subsidized housing to program participants.

Understanding the barriers that transportation and city borders posed, the Halton Day Program was introduced in 2016. Through a valuable partnership with St. Luke’s Community Centre in Oakville, a vibrant hub emerged, fostering group participation, community engagement, and providing respite to families and caregivers.
