We’re proud to share some exciting news with our community. Mind Forward has been approved for funding from TD Bank Group (TD)to launch our new ReNew Concussion Transition Program.
ReNEW was created in response to something we’ve seen far too often: young people struggling after a concussion without enough guidance, follow-up, or support. Many are in the middle of important life transitions – finishing high school, starting college or university, balancing sports, part-time work, and growing responsibilities. A concussion can interrupt all of that, and recovery isn’t always straightforward.
With support from TD, this program will help change that.
Working alongside local schools, youth programs, and university physiotherapy and social work placements, we’ll bring concussion awareness, early screening, and navigation support directly into the spaces where young people already are. Our goal is to make it easier for young people to recognize a concussion, get the right help early, and feel supported throughout their recovery.
Through this new initiative, we will now be able to:
Bring practical concussion education to classrooms and youth spaces so students, families, and staff know what to look for and where to turn.
Offer community-based screenings and referral pathways to help youth access timely assessment and follow-up care.
Support a safer, more confident recovery, including help navigating services and managing school or work demands after a concussion.
Build stronger partnerships so the community is better equipped to respond when a young person is struggling.
“Concussions can change a young person’s life in an instant”, says Andrea Ure, Chief Development Officer at Mind Forward. “With the support of TD, we can reach young adults where they already are, make it easier to get help early, and surround them with the right information and supports for a safer recovery”.
This investment through the Bank’s corporate citizenship platform, the TD Ready Commitment, will help us reduce barriers to concussion care for young adults across Peel, Halton, and Dufferin, with a focus on those who might face added hurdles because of income, geography, or systemic inequities.
We thank TD for supporting our work to improve access to brain health education and care in our community and help ensure more young people can recognize, report, and recover from concussion with confidence and support.
