International Day against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia – May 17

International-Day-against-Homophobia-Transphobia-and-Biphobia-2024

The International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHBT)aims to coordinate
international events in order to raise awareness about the discrimination, prejudice, and violence faced by the 2SLGBTQ+ community. The goal is to promote tolerance, respect, acceptance, understanding, and equal rights for all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.

IDAHBT was first established in 2004 to commemorate the World Health Organization’s decision to declassify homosexuality as a mental disorder. The hope is to draw attention to the violence and discrimination experienced by lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, intersex people, and all of those with diverse sexual orientations, gender identities or expressions, and sex characteristics. Since 2004, it has grown into a global movement to promote equality and human rights for the 2SLGBTQ+ community. As of May 17, 2021, IDAHBT has been officially recognized by over 130 countries around the world.

Please join the EDI committee in acknowledging the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia. For more information please visit https://may17.org/.
