June is Brain Injury Awareness Month

As we step into June, we are proud to recognize Brain Injury Awareness Month. This is an important time for us to highlight the significant impact of brain injuries and the importance of the work we do at Mind Forward.

Did you know that every year in Canada, over 160,000 people sustain a brain injury? These injuries can have profound effects on individuals and their families, affecting every aspect of life. At Mind Forward, we are dedicated to supporting over 400 clients with acquired brain injuries, providing essential services and fostering community awareness.

This year, the Ontario Brain Injury Association’s (OBIA) campaign is “Watch Your Step: Falls Can Happen to Anyone, Anytime, Anyplace”. Falls are a frequently overlooked cause of concussions and brain injuries. They can happen to anyone, anywhere, and at any age. Unfortunately, more visible injuries, like broken bones, often overshadow the concussions and brain injuries sustained from falls. See the attached flyers for more information.

Throughout June, we will be hosting several events to raise awareness and promote understanding about brain injuries, beginning with the Clock Tower Lighting and picnic at Celebration Square on Tuesday, June 4th at 4pm. A full calendar of the month’s activities will be shared shortly and we encourage all staff to participate to help us amplify our message.
Together, we can make a difference in raising awareness and advocating for those affected by brain injuries!
